Track Biography:

Sitting on 420 acres along the banks of the Boyne River, the Lands at Dowth host a wealth of Neolithic and medieval archaeology. It is part of the Brú na Bóinne Unesco World Heritage Site.

Acquired by the Brennan Family in 2013, the Lands and Dowth Hall are currently undergoing restoration work. Since 2016, the Lands have been opened to the public on numerous occasions including Family Fun Days which saw over 1,200 people walk a trail discovering the Lands archaeology and architecture and learned how food and farming have influenced the landscape over the past 6,000 years.

Dowth Hall hosted racing as early as the 1700’s. Reinstating this proud tradition in 2015, Devenish took the opportunity to partner with the Meath & Tara Committee to host the Autumn Point-to-Point at Dowth. It was a special occasion for all concerned, and the first time that Dowth had been open to the public in many years. The return of racing to the ‘Old Racecourse’ restores the sporting heritage as part of the wider estate restoration project.

Dowth has always had a strong connection with racing, and was first owned by the Netterville family designed the Racecourse in the 1700’s. It was later sold to the Gradwell family who bred the horse ‘Drogheda’, winner of the 1898 Aintree Grand National. More recently the Cameron Family owned Dowth. Tony Cameron, who was an accomplished jockey and equestrian, competed at two Olympics in Three Day Eventing, Rome 1960 and Tokyo 1964. Perhaps his greatest achievement in the saddle was finishing 4th on Gay Navaree in the 1962 Aintree Grand National. We were delighted that Tony has returned as acting steward at Dowth Point-to-Point.

Come racing this October 28th and be part of the story of Dowth.

The Mick Goff team enjoyed success in this division at Tinahely on Sunday and they will look to add to their early season total with CLONDAW HOLLOW having saddled Good Man Jim to win this race 12 months ago. The son of Beat Hollow finished third on debut in the Tralee maiden last May which produced last weekends Pigeons winner Onthefrontfoot. He will likely be strongly fancied here as a result. Both Up The Straight and Eglantino Kauto finished fourth last weekend, whilst Manicman, who was well-supported ahead of his debut at Toomebridge, may be capable of improving.

NO HIDDEN CHARGES was not foot perfect over his fences on his return to action at Tinahely, but he still held claims when slipping up around the bottom bend. His Courtown run from last season entitles him to go very close in a race like this. The Kieran Purcell-trained Orpen Wells took a big step forward with a first placed finish at Ballingarry in June and he should have conditions on his side here. Boro Melody was in with placed prospects before unshipping at Necarne and he should benefit for his reappearance at Loughrea a fortnight ago.

Track recruit KRUZHLININ could make his Irish point-to-point debut here with a rating of 144 over fences, which would put him quite a considerable way ahead of what any of his rivals achieved under rules. Formerly with Donald McCain and Philip Hobbs, this would also be his first outing for Gordon Elliott. Ourmanmassini, the winner of this race two years ago, and Mr Boss Man, have both visited the winners enclosure this season, whilst Vinnie Luck is better than his recent display at Loughrea and is another for the shortlist.

This looks a wide open race that could well be hers for the taking if she puts her best foot forward. Rair Owl Timz has been a busy campaigner already this season and could be set for a third run in four weeks, whilst Lady Violet represents the same yard who won this race 12 months ago with Larkfield Lass.

SMOOTH SPOON had seem destined to get off the mark at Corbeagh House back in 2016, only to come down at the final fence. Things may not have gone his way in his relatively few runs since then, but he showed that he was coming back to form with a pleasing fourth at Castletown Geoghegan at the beginning of the month. Brindacier Fatal has not yet been able to get back to the form of his Tallow second, but a race like this could see him bounce back.

MAJOR DAVIS brought a host of placed track form to his points debut at Castletown-Geoghegan on the opening weekend of the season, when getting off the mark in good style. He is one of four last time out winners among the entries, with Doldrum Bay particularly interesting following a facile success at Loughrea. The returning Crossley Tender more than adequately acquitted himself in winners company at Kinsale last June, when he finished just behind last weeks Portrush winner Kadmer and is a serious danger.
