Track Biography:

The Killinick Harriers point-to-point has been held at the costal track of Lingstown since 1962. The point-to-point is said to have commenced in the late 1800’s. The previous venues being Foleys of Granask, Harveysglass, Knockhowlin and Cousinstown.

The track itself is a free-draining track and runs down to the Irish Sea on one side and Tacumshane Lake on the eastern side. Over the years there has been many successful trainers and jockeys partnerships forged at Lingstown. An example of this is Padge Berry and his nephew John and, in recent years, William Codd and his brother Jamie, who is one of the leading amateur riders in Ireland both on the track and in point-to-points.

Lingstown has been a successful hunting ground for the Wexford trainers of Colin Bowe, Denis Murphy and the Doyle brothers, to name but a few. There are two meetings held there each season, one in November and one on the second Sunday in March. We hold our banks race at each fixture which is always a great spectacle to watch.

Lingstown has produced many stars over the years such as the 2017 Aintree Grand National winner, One For Arthur and the former Kerry National winner Rath Of Titans as well as Marie Banrigh who was sold for a record breaking £320,000 at the Cheltenham festival sale after winning at Lingstown a few days previous.

Preview

The Virginia Considine-trained SHISHKIN made a very promising debut when finishing a very respectable third at Inch on his debut last spring, and he could be one to take note of on his return to action. Eclair Des Sablons only lost out on a maiden success when blundering at the final fence at Lisronagh a fortnight ago, which would leave him close to a maiden success, whilst the likes of, Pres, Chazza, The Cull Bank, Dundrum Wood and Shinrock Fame, are others for the shortlist.

ROBIN GOLD had seemed set to go close at Stradbally on her debut in the spring before coming down at the final fence and that debut effort would seem to leave her as the one to beat. Whilst no match for Tuff Nano at Ballinaboola a fortnight ago, Proper Ticket took a big step forward on what was her seasonal reappearance, and further progress can be expected. A non-finisher on her two runs to date, the well-bred Call Me Robin, who is from the family of both Rhinestone Cowboy and Wichita Lineman, was sent off as a short-priced favourite and is clearly expected to go close.

TRACK MAC proved himself on good ground at Tralee in the spring when only going down by a narrow margin, and he could make amends here on his return to action. Recent Ballinaboola second, Classical Daytime, has the benefit of race fitness on his side, and was making up good late progress on that occasion, with the potentially re-opposing, Plan Of Escape, having finished in behind him on that occasion.

The winners of the last two races over the banks here could taking each other in this. Last years winner VENITIEN DE MAI is back to defend his 2017 title having seen his season fizzle out somewhat later in the spring. He will be looking to bounce back to form in this having already proven himself over the course. Vital Island, who was a winner around here in March should give him the most to think about, with his fourth in the Risk Of Thunder Chase at Punchestown last Sunday, having left him primed for this.

SIZINGDOWNTHERHINE was only narrowly beaten in a Fairyhouse hunter chase last season, and if he was able to recapture that form on his seasonal reappearance, he could prove to be the one to side with in this. Johns Choice has won two of his last three starts and would look the likely alternative, whilst Smooth Spoon and No Hidden Charges are recent maiden winners.

CAPTAIN COMMANDER ran his best race for some time when chasing home Smooth Spoon at Dowth Hall last month, and he could follow up here. On the pick of his form, Bunninadden would look the big danger, although he would need to step up from a disappointing run at Lisronagh on his latest outing. Beliou Le Fume only went down by a head at Damma House and will have the advantage of her mares allowance.
