Track Biography:

The County Down hunt have been in existence since the early 1900’s. We have held our point-to-point meeting at Loughbrickland for over 70 years by kind permission of the Kidd family. Our autumn meeting is run in November each year with our spring fixture taking place in April.

Over the years, Loughbrickland point-to-point has produced many top national hunt stars such as 2003 Aintree Grand national winner Bindaree and Cheltenham Gold Cup runner-up Truckers Tavern.

One of the real attractions of point-to-point racing is the opportunity to get up close and personal with the future stars of the racing world in a relaxed and family friendly environment.

Our point-to-point is located 15 minutes away from the picturesque Slieve Gullion Forest Park which has something for all of the family including woodland trails, stunning views across the Ring of Gullion, Mourne Mountains, Cooley Peninsula and Armagh Drumlins as well as a play park and tour guides of the park.

Having finished a respectable fourth on his debut at Rathcannon, the well related GOGUENARD may be able to step up here and get his head in front with that experience behind him. Ballyoge has to bounce back from a final fence fall in Umma House having got into the placings at Toomebridge, whilst Tommy Dillon had placed prospects when coming down at the last in Ballyarthur in the spring.

The former track performer VAUCELET was only narrowly denied at Portrush on his points debut and with his conqueror from that day, Brayhill subsequently winning well at Rathcannon recently, it looks to be the pick of the form here, particularly as two horses that finished behind him on that occasion, could both potentially reoppose here looking the likely dangers. Presenting Jeremy has five lengths to find, whilst Coothill, a horse that stepped up to finish second at Damma House two weeks ago, was a further 20-plus lengths in arrears of him on that occasion.

ASK DMan was very impressive on his stable debut for the David Christie yard and although stepping up against horses that are proven in this division, he could just have the edge over them here. Dento Des Obeaux ran a big race in defeat in a top race at Loughanmore recently and is already a winner this term from Oldcastle, whilst Thunderosa is another that cannot be discounted despite not having got his head in front for almost three years.

If DARCYS HILL could recapture the form of her fine second at Toomebridge for what was her seasonal re-appearance, she could find an opportunity in what would look a wide-open contest. Jaunty Velocity could be the alternative as she has finished placed in winners company and will find things a lot easier here, whilst Burnt Ash and All Loved Up will not be too far away.

The likeable 14-year-old MOUNT COLAH rolled back the years to win his first race in almost five years at Moira when beating a couple of these and he could double up here. Two former champion pointers could line up in opposition, with Eddies Miracle needing to bounce back from a non-completion at Castletown-Geoghegan on his season bow, whilst Kruzhlinin has not seen competitive action since recording his 13th open success at Ballingarry in June 2019. Mr Mantilla and Rewritetherules have more recent form to bring them into contention.

LOUGHHILL has a good deal of experience behind him and having finished placed in each of his last two outings, should be able to get his head in front here. The Castletown-Geoghegan final-fence faller Sleve Donard ran a respectable race when third at Loughanmore and is the likely alternative with Boogily Lane and Autumn Crusade others capable of getting into the mix.
