Track Biography:

The County Down hunt have been in existence since the early 1900’s. We have held our point-to-point meeting at Loughbrickland for over 70 years by kind permission of the Kidd family. Our autumn meeting is run in November each year with our spring fixture taking place in April.

Over the years, Loughbrickland point-to-point has produced many top national hunt stars such as 2003 Aintree Grand national winner Bindaree and Cheltenham Gold Cup runner-up Truckers Tavern.

One of the real attractions of point-to-point racing is the opportunity to get up close and personal with the future stars of the racing world in a relaxed and family friendly environment.

Our point-to-point is located 15 minutes away from the picturesque Slieve Gullion Forest Park which has something for all of the family including woodland trails, stunning views across the Ring of Gullion, Mourne Mountains, Cooley Peninsula and Armagh Drumlins as well as a play park and tour guides of the park.

BENASSI brings a strong level of form into this courtesy of his fine fourth on debut at Curraghmore last month in a piece of form which is working out well and he could put that experience to good use here. Stablemate Garcon Dargent disappointed on his return but is worth a second chance, whilst Raffles Wonder also cannot be discounted after his fourth on debut at Tattersalls. The market will give the best guide as to what is expected from the many newcomers entered in this.

HYMPAC found just one rival too good on his debut at Necarne at the end of last season in a race which has since produced three subsequent maiden winners to suggest it is a notable piece of form. He could make a winning return in this. Gamin Doux had made the frame as a four-year-old last year but will need to bounce back from a slightly underwhelming reappearance, but they set the benchmark in this.

HANDY HEADON represents the same stable which won this race 12 months ago with Ask DMan and he could get back into winning ways here on what would be his first start since finishing behind the subsequent open winner Templebredin at Portrush last year. School Lane brings much more recent form to the table having impressed when winning at Tattersalls just last Saturday, whilst Diegos Way is also a winner at Tattersalls this season although he has ten lengths to find with Handy Headon on their meeting at Castletown-Geoghegan last year.

GOOD AS HELL took a notable step forward at Umma House last month when finishing second on just her second career outing. The form of that race has held up notably with the winner since beating geldings in winners company at Kinsale, whilst Good As Hell herself finished 30 lengths in front of Glen Ava who was a winner at Tattersalls last Saturday. Crucially, that Tattersalls form line would give her the edge over what could be her main danger, Hello Arlene, who was second in that maiden last week. Of the others, Burnet Ash, Carlotalin and All Loved Up have place claims if producing their very best.

This could be a very hot race if the seven entries stand their ground as WINGED LEADER bids to win this race for the second year in succession. He comes into what would be his seasonal re-appearance having won his last three including two hunter chases at the end of last term. Mighty Stowaway put in a big performance to beat his stablemate Some Man at Tinahely but is also declared for the Hunter Chase at Fairyhouse, whilst Tetretema Cup winner Solomn Grundy should come on for his return run at Damma House last Sunday.

DUKEHILL bids for compensation here having only got as far as the first when sent off as the short-priced favourite at Loughanmore last month. That had come after a very encouraging stable debut at Moira and he could be tough to beat in this. Definetly, Darsi is the obvious alternative having taken a step forward to finish second in that same contest.
